Brake Repair in Pasadena & Hollywood
Squealing, grinding, a soft pedal or a shudder when you stop — bring it in and we'll tell you exactly what's worn and what isn't.
What brake service at Pinky's covers
Brakes are the one system where guessing is not an option. Every brake job starts with the wheels off and a measured inspection — pad thickness, rotor runout and thickness, caliper travel, hose condition and fluid state. You get the numbers, not a verdict.
- Brake pad and rotor replacement, front and rear
- Rotor resurfacing where thickness allows, replacement where it doesn't
- Caliper, piston, slide pin and hardware service
- Brake fluid flush and moisture testing
- ABS brake line inspection and warning-light diagnosis
- Parking brake adjustment and cable replacement
Signs your brakes need attention
- High-pitched squeal when stopping. Usually the wear indicator doing its job — you have some time, but not much.
- Grinding or a metallic scrape. Pad material is gone and metal is contacting the rotor. Stop driving on it; this turns a pad job into a rotor job fast.
- Soft or sinking pedal. Air, a fluid leak, or a failing master cylinder. This is a same-day item.
- Steering-wheel shudder under braking. Typically warped or unevenly worn rotors.
- Car pulls to one side when you brake. Often a sticking caliper or a collapsed hose.
- ABS or brake warning light on. Could be a wheel-speed sensor, could be fluid level. Needs a scan to know.
How the job runs
We inspect and measure first, then call you with findings and a written estimate. Nothing gets replaced without your say-so. Most straightforward pad-and-rotor jobs are completed the same day; if a part has to come in, we tell you the timeline before you commit.
Stop-and-go driving is hard on brakes
Pasadena and Hollywood driving is the worst case for brake wear — surface-street traffic, hills around the Arroyo and the Cahuenga Pass, and constant stop-and-go on Lake Avenue and Melrose. Brakes here routinely wear faster than the mileage interval in the owner's manual suggests, which is why we measure rather than assume.
